305 Demonstration Regiment Wins NASA Commandant’s 2026 League

The 305 Demonstration Regiment has emerged overall winner of the 2026 Commandant’s League competition organised by the Nigerian Army School of Artillery (NASA), Kachia, Kaduna State.

The Tactics Department finished in second position, while the Air Defence Department was third at the end of the competition held at the school’s football field.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that participating teams were drawn from the Tactics Department, 305 Demonstration Regiment, Air Defence Department, Nigerian Navy School of Armament Technology, NASA Headquarters/Administration Wing, Locating and Meteorology Department, Field Department and the Army Central Ammunition Depot, Aguru.

NAN reports that the participating teams competed in football, basketball, volleyball and tug-of-war events during the weeks-long competition.

Speaking at the closing ceremony on Tuesday , the Commandant of the Nigerian Army School of Artillery, Maj.-Gen. Adam Hassan, said the Commandant’s League was organised to promote teamwork, resilience, discipline and esprit de corps among personnel.

Hassan said the competition, which commenced on May 19 and ended on June 23, formed part of activities marking the graduation of the First and Second Quarter Courses 2026.

According to him, the values promoted through sporting activities are essential both on the field and in the discharge of the constitutional responsibilities of the Nigerian Army.

“The determination, teamwork and fighting spirit displayed on the field mirror the same qualities required to defend the nation, uphold peace and sustain the proud traditions of the Nigerian Army,” he said.

According to the commandant, the competition had strengthened camaraderie among units, improved physical fitness and provided opportunities to identify talents capable of representing the service at national and international levels.

He added that discipline, endurance and teamwork demonstrated during the competition reflected the qualities required of soldiers in the execution of military duties.

Hassan commended the athletes for their discipline, sportsmanship and determination throughout the competition, saying they had exemplified the core values of the Nigerian Army.

He also appreciated members of the organising committee and officiating officials for ensuring the smooth conduct of the event, noting that their professionalism contributed significantly to its success.

Earlier, the Deputy Commandant of the Nigerian Army School of Artillery, Brig.-Gen. Usman Lawal, said the Commanders’ League remained an important platform for promoting physical fitness, healthy living, discipline and teamwork among formations and units.

Lawal urged participants to uphold sportsmanship, fairness and mutual respect, stressing that the true essence of sports extended beyond victory to building friendship, discipline and unity.

He said the finals coincided with the graduation activities of students for the first and second quarters of 2026, adding that the trophies and medals presented symbolised excellence, dedication and hard work among participants.
