Zamfara state Coordinator for the Pool Effort Mass Repaires (PEMR), Rakiya Muhammad Gummi, said the programme has succeeded to rehabilitate 36 patients of the Vesico Vagina Fistula (VVF) under the federal government supported programme.

Gummi, who explained that, the programme was initiated directly by the office of the President aimed at ensuring a VVF-free state, saying it would be continuous so as to attend to more patients in the state.

She said “VVF has been one of the complicated diseases women were suffering adding that Mr. President was determined to ensure that government must intervene to save the lives of the patients.

Rakiya further disclosed that, the federal government had assigned qualified doctors that specialized in treating VVF patients as well as adequate provision for all the required equipment.

Speaking to Peoples Daily shortly after discharging the recovered patients, the head of the medical team, Dr. Hassan Wara, warned that they should stay away from sexual intercourse for a period of six months.

A beneficiary, Mrs. Ragma Ezuchukwu, has commended the federal government’s effort in initiating the programme which is responsible for her recovery.
