4 months after, ASUU raises alarm over abducted lecturer

The Academic Staff Union of Universities ( ASUU) Kano and Sokoto zones have raised alarm over the prolonged abduction of one of their members, Abubakar Idris.
This is coming four months after the abduction of the lecturer from his Kaduna home.
Speaking on behalf of the two zones at a press conference held in Kaduna yesterday, Dr. Abubakar said the abducted lecturer works at the Department of Languages and Linguistics Federal University Dutsin-ma Katsina State and was abducted in the wee hours of 2nd August 2019 in his house at Shagari Low-cost Kaduna.
He said his abductors have not communicated with the family demanding ransom.
“The family reported the case to the police and others security agencies in the state but no positive response has been received.
“The abductors up till date have neither called for ransom nor stated any reason for his abduction.
“On the 11 October 2019, the Branch submitted a letter to the office of Commissioner of Police Kaduna State formerly reported the case and soliciting for his quick Intervention to trace the whereabouts but up till now no positive response,” ASUU noted.
The Union, said it views the abduction of its member as inhuman and abuse of his basic human rights leading to generation of tension and uncertainties to members of the university community and his family in particular.
ASUU therefore implored the security agencies to do be proactive in finding out the whereabouts of their missing member and his immediate release.
“We also appeal to well-meaning Nigerians to support us in this crusade,” he said.
In a sharp reaction, the Police Public Relations Officer PPRO Kaduna State Command, DSP Yakubu Sabo Abubakar said the Command has not relented in tracing the whereabouts of the abducted lecturer.
He added that the family of lecturer has been getting briefing on the development.
DSP Yakubu Sabo Abubakar said the abduction of the lecturer is not like the normal kidnapping case as there has not been no demand for ransom from his family, and all his lines are untracked.
