The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Zamfara State has announced the receipt of 58,260 registered Permanent Voters Cards (PVCs) been registered within the year 2017 and are ready for collection by the owners on the 21st of May, 2018.
This was made known by the Resident Electoral Commissioner in the state, Dr. Asma’u Sani Maikudi in a press conference at the commission’s office Gusau the state capital, saying , those registered within the year 2018 would collect their PVCs before general elections.
Dr. Asma’u assured that, no eligible registrants would be left out as the commission embarks responding to challenges faced by the citizens in some centers on the running of Contineous Voter Registration (CVR), saying, “INEC has purchased and distributed new Direct Data Capture Machines (DDCM) to ensure to this”.
“Similarly, in Zamfara state, we are conducting the exercise in 30 centers, 14 centers are located at the INEC LGA offices, while the remaining 16 centers are located at the various Registration Centers/Wards where the Registration Officers conduct mobile registration to ease the difficulties earlier faced by prospective registrants”, Dr. Asma’u has said.
She reiterated that, in order to ensure that all prospective Registrants are not disenfranchised, the Commission is carrying out mop-up registration at the ZERO polling units where the new DDC machines were deployed. “In Zurmi local government for instance, we recorded great success where we have been able to register 1966 in Zero polling units and 30 other registrants that are not part of the Zero PUs.
