A clash between Fulani herdsmen and a vigilante group in Kankara Local Government area of Katsina state has reportedly left six people killed.

Our correspondent gathered from a resident of Kankara town, who spoke on condition of anonymity that before now there were no love lost between Fulani herdsmen and a local vigilante group in the area.

It was similarly gathered that the fight broke out yesterday a market day of the town, when some herdsmen lay siege in the outskirts of the town, preventing their kinsmen from bringing goods to the market for sale as a mark of protest for their alleged harassment in the area.

The resident said that the herdsmen had earlier allegedly written a letter calling on their kinsmen to boycott selling their goods in the market until the issues were addressed.

However, it was alleged that when the vigilante group noticed the actions of the herdsmen, they confronted them, which led to a free for all fight that led to the killing of the six people while several others were left injured.

The source said that the fracas, which lasted for several hours, led to the abrupt closure of the market, while people scattered into different directions scampering for safety.

Similarly, it was gathered that security personnel including the police and soldiers were drafted to restore peace in the area.
