Boko-haram-attackNo fewer than four persons alleged to be armed robbers were reportedly killed at a checkpoint in Bokkos local government area of Plateau state by the Special Task Force (STF), restoring peace in the state, while three herdsmen were shot death in Kanke town, in Kanke LGA, by suspected cattle-rustlers.

This was contained in a press release, signed by the STF Media/information officer, Captain Ikedichi Iweha, and issued yesterday in Jos, the Plateau State capital.

The release stated that, “at about 01.00hrs of Saturday, July 19, personnel of the STF, at Kuba Checkpoint in Bokkos Local Government Area, had intercepted escape of another gang of armed robbers. In the ensuing shootout with the personnel, 4 of the robbers lost their lives, while another four were arrested including two women.

“Similarly, 2 locally-made pistols, 1 locally made revolver, 1 AK47 riffle, 6 rounds of 7.62 mm special, 1 round of 9mm and other properties including documents were recovered from them, adding that the surviving suspects have been handed over to the Barkin Ladi Division of the Police for prosecution.

It also said that another gang of 4-man armed robbers have been arrested on July 17, by the personnel of the STF, at around Kwana Soja area, along Zaria road of Jos North Local Government Area.

“On 8 July 2014, armed persons suspected to be Taroh youths rustled 188 cattle belonging to some herdsmen, killing 3 herdsmen in the process in Kanke town. The arrest of a suspect of Taroh extraction was made,”, the statement added.

The release however urged the people of the state to provide all necessary information that would help to apprehend perpetratos in the state.
