The election petitions tribunal sitting in Katsina has nullified the bye election conducted in the Mashi/Dutsi Federal Constituency in which Mansur Ali Mashi of the All Progressive Congress (APC) emerged the winner.
Chairman of the tribunal, L.M. Boufini, while nullifying the election, said noncompliance with the Electoral Act has affected the results, adding that the election held on the 20th May 2017 was marred by irregularities.
Nazifi Adamu of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) had approached the tribunal on the June 10th 2017, challenging the victory of Mansur Ali Mashi of the APC.
The tribunal had ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to conduct a fresh election in the fifteen polling units within the next ninety days.
Counsel to the INEC said the body has beautifully presented its case, while the petitioner expressed delight over the rulings.
