No fewer than two persons were reported dead in a Friday midnight inferno that gulfed Echemas filling station along Jos Bauchi Road.
An eye witness said the inferno occurred at about 11:15pm, “when some tankers carrying petroleum products stationed at the filling station,
and people were trying to transfer the petrol into another tanker truck, when the fire engulfed them…”
According to the witness, five trucks were stationed, “but 3 of them were completely burnt down, and two persons, a truck conduct and private security guard the fillings station.”
He said the five trucks arrived Jos from Lagos, with each of them containing 40,000 liters of petrol, and were to transfer the product into other trucks for possible diversion to other places.
Our correspondent who was at the scene of the incident yesterday morning, reports that some private vehicles that were packed at the station were also burnt down, it was also observed that the fire fighters battled with the inferno till about 6:00am Saturday morning.
Several phone calls to the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Tyopev Terna, for comments were unanswered.
