SON holds summit for product standardization

In order to achieve global product standardization, Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON) has organised Electrotechnical Summit for Nigerian National Committee of the International of the International Electrotechnical Commission (NC-IEC) in Abuja with the theme: Making Impact In Global Standardization.
The president, International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) was represented by Mr Fabio Gargatini. In a welcome address, Acting Director (Ag Director), Mrs Chinyere Egwuonwu said that local, regional and international standardization works and activities by Nigerians is expected to experience a more positive dimensions as the Nigerian Committee (NC) would be recognized and reinvigorated.
The Ag Director also added that Nigeria had so much to benefit from the works of the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC). Mrs Egwuonwu observed that Nigerian markets and consumers were constantly procuring and applying Electrotechnical and other related technology based products and cum services to improve life, adding that there is no better time than now to organise a summit of that nature to position the country’s NEC for beneficial participation in global standardization. She said that the relationship between Nigeria and IEC was beneficially and economically. Though she believed that as the country were yet to be there, the Ag Director advised that Nigeria doesn’t relent in it’s own efforts.
In a key note address, the Director General (DG), Mr Osita Oboloma spoke at length on the importance of standardization due to what he saw was dynamics and fundamental changes introduced in the sector by the implementation of government’s reform programme.
He said that the outcome of the summit would go a long way to work out the modalities to better engage experts from the Nigerian Electricity Supply Industry in the development and implementation of Electro-technical standards to ensure quality and safety of products, systems and practices in the country.
