Veteran journalists in Edo State have expressed concern over unprofessional and unethical conduct of some media practitioners in the country.
The league comprises of experienced journalists who have worked creditably in print and electronic Media.
Comrade Joseph Obadigie, Chairman of the League, pleaded with publishers to strive to meet wage obligations to their members of staff especially reporters and editors.
Obadigie spoke at the first anniversary celebrations of the state League of Veteran Journalists, in Benin City, where he flayed the moral, deficiency and flagrant disregard for experience by younger practitioners.
Recalling the role and responsibilities of Journalists as enshrined in the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Obadigie, challenged reporters to strive at all times to balance their stories such that they present only the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth.
He advised leaders of the various states councils, and their component chapels to tap from the wealth of experience of the veterans by intimating them with developments in the union with a view to resolving problems as they arise.
Also speaking, a former state council chairman of NUJ, Comrade Godwin Erhahon, urged the leadership of the League to properly screen intending members to ensure that only credible Media Veterans find their ways into the league.
He specifically challenged print media executives and publishers to be innovative and meet salary obligation to their employees.
