Conference on Islamic work, peace, social security holds in Yobe

Yobe state governor, Alh. Ibrahim Gaidam has declared open an international conference on Islamic work, peace and social security.
The conference was organized by the Yobe state University in conjunction with Hira Magazine and NURSET, which took place at the Ibrahim Gaidam Hall,Yobe state University, Damaturu.
This was shortly after laying the foundation stone for the construction of the university central mosque.
The conference which centers on peace building through education has the theme, “prospects of Islamic works towards promoting peace and social security in thought and practice” as a means of forestalling the ugly incidence of crimes in the society perpetrated by insurgents and others engaged in various forms of criminality that leads to loss of lives and properties.
Speaking during the occasion, the state governor stressed the importance of education which he said is one of the best legacies that may be handed down to the people of any nation.
“Education is of great importance in the observance of our religious duties and day to day activities…it is also a fact that the growth, development and evolution of a vibrant and stable economy which we very much desire to achieve are also predicated on a well educated and informed populace,” the governor said.
According to him, when there is a combination of peace and well educated citizenry, they can be used as a veritable tools to address various challenges facing any community, state or nation, adding that it is the non-observance of well-established, laid down norms and legacies by well-cherished Islamic works that have in recent years led to security breaches, unemployment and host of other unfortunate situations resulting in the emergence of of groups like Maitatsine, Taliban and recently, Boko Haram and such crimes like kidnapping, cattle rustling, drug addiction, among others.
He therefore urged all stakeholders concerned with development of humanity to chart a common front towards entrenching peace, fostering unity, promotion of education and social security among the diverse citizenry, while also urging the presenters and resource persons of the conference, participants to pay rapt attention to the lectures and participate actively in the round table discussions.
