FG sensitizes communities in FCT on tuberculosis

To create more community awareness on tuberculosis, the National Tuberculosis and Leprosy Control Programme under the Federal Ministry of Health says it has visited several communities and motor parks within the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja to senticise residents Speaking yesterday at Jabi General Motor Park.Utako, the Deputy Director/Head of Advocacy, Communication and Social Mobilization Unit (NTBLCP) Itohowo Uko explained that TB is not a death sentence on people but a disease calling on all with the ailment to seek medical attention in the hospital as test and treatment are all free.
Uko further disclosed that the sensitization programme on TB is part of their weeklong event that is meant to commemorate Tuberculosis Day celebration, which is usually on March 24 every year.
According to her, they gather at Jabi Garage as one of the strategic points in order for them to carry out their Community Outreach Programme noting that Jabi Garage is where many drivers and passengers meet before embarking on journey every day.
“Passengers and drivers meet here before going to their various places, while onboard to their various destinations and during the process many things happen between drivers and passengers and that was why we came here to sensitize them on how TB patient should seek cure”.
