NDLEA seizes thousands of illicit, hard drugs in Katsina

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency ( NDLEA) Katsina state Command has seized 25, 254 bottles of Cough Syrup with Codeine and 57,860 kilograms of assorted hard drugs in Katsina State.
Briefing newsmen on the activities of the command from January to March 2018, the state commander of the agency, Hajiya Maryam Gambo Sani, added that the illicit drugs were seized by its officers and a joint task force.
She further disclosed that 24, 000 bottles of the Cough Syrup loaded in a trailer were traced to a Ware House in Dutsen Reme in Funtua, adding that six suspects including the driver of the truck and his two conductors were also arrested.
The commander added “amongst them is Christian Chukwuma, the sales man, while Obiora Chukwuma is the manager SUNGLOW EQUITY NIG LTD, the owners of the drugs and 24, 000 bottles of Cough syrup with Codeine”.
Hajiya Sani lamented the involvement of students in both sales and use of Cough Syrup with codeine, disclosing that a total number of twelve students of higher institutions were arrested with 159 bottles of Cough Syrup , 160.6 grams of Canabis Sativa and 50.7 grams of Rohypnol.
She said that, worried by the dangerous trend, the Command had embarked on massive public enlightenment in schools, public places and using electronic and print media to sensitize the public on the dangers associated with drug abuse.
The commander vowed that, the command was all out to check the menace of drug merchants operating in the state.
He commended the state government for giving them all the necessary support in the discharge of their assignment.
