Amuneke quits Sudanese Watani over pay cut

Date:

Former African Footballer of the Year, Emmanuel Amunike has left his Sudanese Club, Al Khartoum Watani citing pay cut for his decision.
The former Super Eagles winger is reported to have parted ways with Al Khartoum Watani, who demanded he takes a pay slash because they are struggling with their finances.
“I met with the club director that they are facing a financial crisis and that was why both players and coaches have not been paid for the past two months,” he said.
“He asked that we take a pay cut, but of course that is not possible when you don’t know when the next salary will be paid.
“We therefore concluded that the best option was for both parties to end this agreement and for them to pay us what they owe us.”
The former Uner-17 coach further explained the financial crisis facing the club started when the chief financier of the club was replaced in January this year.
Under Amuneke, Watani recorded 11 points in eight games and are second in their abridged section of the Sudanese top-flight league by the first round.
