PDP cautions security personnel against taking side during polls

The Peoples Democratic Party has advised the military personnel not to be used to interfere in the nation’s electoral processes.
This is even as the leading opposition party has harped on the need for Nigerians to condemn rigging, vote buying, intimidation in election in the country.
The National Chairman of the PDP, Prince Uche Secondus said these yesterday during the inauguration of the Osun State governorship campaign committee headed by the Senate President, Bukola Saraki at the Legacy House office of the party in Abuja.
The Osun state governorship election is billed to hold on Saturday, 22nd September this year.
Secondus pointed out that the various security agencies that are supposed to protect Nigerians interest are not to take side during elections or on any matter.
According to the PDP National Chairman, “We commend our soldiers, but they should not allow themselves to be used to interfere or take side in our electoral processes.
“The security agencies that are supposed to protect Nigerians interest are now taking side, INEC that is supposed to conduct free and fair election are bow taking part. If anything happens to this country, the Chairman of INEC should be held responsible.
“All eyes are on INEC and all our security agencies, what happened in Rivers state is a shame.”We must rise to condemn rigging, vote buying, intimidation in an election by security agencies, if not am quite that 2019 is seating on a gun powder”, the party said.
Secondus therefore advised all the security agencies not fall into the hands of misguided leaders, reminding them that they sworn to uphold an institutions not an individual, not a politician.
“Their loyalty should be to the constitution, not to an individual”, he maintained.
