Delta plans 500 modern markets in urban cities, 340 lockup shops

In its determination to scale up commercial activities in the state, Delta state government has taken steps to build 500 modern markets in urban cities and 340 luckup stores across the state.
The state Commissioner for Industry and Commerce, Chief Chika Ossai at a media conference on Thursday in Asaba, expressed satisfaction at the level of work being done at the ongoing Eke modern market in kwale, Ndokwa West Local Government Area of the state, disclosing that the project would also be involved in the construction of 340 luckup stores
He said:”these projects will be commissioned in 2020 and be handed over to the traders for use and we have called on the contractors to speed up work in order to deliver the jobs on time”
Ossai, however, called on the Ndokwa West Local Government Council to complement its efforts on the ongoing Kwale modern market by ensuring that it prevail on the contractors handling the 300 open market at the Kwale market to mobilize to site, assuring that the projects would be delivered before the first quarter of 2020.
Meanwhile, the state government has enjoined community leaders and well-meaning individuals to intensify efforts in protecting water infrastructure from vandalism.
Dr Martins Okonta the state Commissioner for Water Resources who confirmed this to Journalists at a media briefing in Asaba on Thursday decried the high rate of vandalism of water caps across the state, reminding Deltans the commitment of the state governor, Dr Ifeanyi Okowa to providing portable water as he had effectively utilized the tax payers’ money to procure Infrastructural equipmet for water supply in the state
