The Niger State Government has expressed condolences to the families of victims of a fatal road accident along the Minna–Bida Road, while clarifying that the vehicle involved was not part of Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago’s convoy.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, the state government said the incident claimed lives and left other occupants injured, with the injured currently receiving medical treatment.
The statement, signed by the Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Hon. Obed Nuhu Nana, conveyed the government’s sympathy to the bereaved families, friends and relations of the deceased.
The government said it deeply regretted the loss of lives and prayed that Almighty God would grant the affected families the strength to endure the tragedy.
Clarifying reports linking the accident to the governor’s convoy, the government explained that the driver involved was a Government House staff member who was returning from a trip with other staff members.
According to the statement, the vehicle was not on an official convoy assignment with Governor Bago, contrary to reports circulating in some media outlets.
The government added that preliminary information indicated that reckless driving might have contributed to the accident.
It expressed regret over the circumstances surrounding the incident and stressed the importance of responsible driving and strict compliance with traffic regulations.
While acknowledging public concern over the tragedy, the state government urged media organisations and members of the public to verify information before publication, particularly when reporting incidents involving government officials and institutions.
The government also reiterated its commitment to the welfare and safety of residents, calling on motorists to exercise caution, obey traffic rules and avoid reckless driving to prevent further loss of lives.
It extended its condolences once again to the families of the deceased and prayed for the peaceful repose of their souls, as well as comfort for those mourning their loved ones.
The statement was signed by Hon. Obed Nuhu Nana, Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Niger State.
