You must train, retrain to remain quality teachers– NTI DG

Director-General and chief executive of the National Teachers’ Institute (NTI), Kaduna, Dr. Aminu Ladan Sharehu, has charged teachers on the need to train and retrain to improve the quality of the services they render o remain relevant in their respective domains.

The DG gave the charge at the induction ceremony of 200 (2010 to 2012) NTI graduates of NCE and PGDE in Kaduna state centres, which was conducted by the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN), chief executive.

Dr. Sharehu said with quality teachers, the nation would be great, adding that the Institute in Kaduna state, started with a student population of less than 1000, but as of December, 2013, it has recorded over 11,000 students in fifteen centres of the state.

The TRCN CEO, Prof. Addison Mark Wokocha said in exercising its mandate, TRCN directs its vision to regulate teacher education, training and practice at all levels of the education system.

Meanwhile, the NTI DG, Sharehu had last week Wednesday been given an award by the executive council union of the Institute’s retirees for what its members described as an improved welfare for all retirees.

The leader of the delegation, who is the Vice Chairman of the union, Mallam Musa Umar said they were at the Institute to congratulate Sharehu on his re-appointment and to rejoice with him on his conferment with the National Productivity Order of Merit Award by President Goodluck Jonathan, last year.

Responding, Sharehu showed appreciation for the award and said: “Since we came on board, we tried to come up with a strategy on how to tackle one of the challenges, that is the issue of staff welfare”.
