The Niger State House of Assembly has reaffirmed its determination to improve the standard of education in the state through partnership with other arms of government, including relevant stakeholders.
The Speaker made the disclosure during the inauguration of House Committee on Education, Science and Technology at the assembly complex in Minna, saying that he was not unaware of the achievements recorded by the present administration.
Represented by the Deputy Speaker, Hon. Kasim Bako Alfa, he said that there are some challenges in the education sector, assuring adequate support to make the leadership to achieve success in their mandate.
The Committee chairman, Hon. Suleiman Gambo Rabiu representing Paikoro constituency, in his remarks, said that in compliance with section 107 sub- section 1- 3 of the constitution of Nigeria as amended 2011 and XVII Rule 12 of the standing order of Niger State Assembly 2019, empowered the Committee to implement their oversight functions in ministries, hence he urged for support.
However, representatives of the Vice Chancellor of Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University, Lapai, Niger State Private Schools Board, who is the Provost of College of Education Minna, Prof. Mohammed Yakubu Auna, who is also the chairman Head of Tertiary Institutions in the state who seek for the approval of a bill on retirement age of 65 years instead of the current 60 years for lecturers of Higher Institutions in the state.
