The Kano State Government has tasked the management of the Kano State Investment and Properties Limited with improving its revenue generation and optimising the state-owned company’s properties and investments.

The Permanent Secretary, Kano State Ministry of Investment and Commerce, Dr Halima Ibrahim Mukhtar, gave the charge while declaring open the 2026 annual retreat of KSIP in Kano on Tuesday.

Mukhtar said the three-day retreat was organised at a critical period when the state was preparing its 2027 budget and reviewing strategies to strengthen revenue generation and sustain economic development.

She urged the management to use the retreat to identify new investment opportunities and develop practical strategies that would improve the company’s financial performance.

The Permanent Secretary said KSIP had a strategic role to play in supporting the economic objectives of the state government.

She said the company was expected to effectively manage its investments, properties and commercial interests while exploring opportunities capable of generating greater value and revenue for Kano State.

Mukhtar listed improving KSIP’s revenue performance, preparing a realistic 2027 budget and optimising its properties and investments among the key objectives of the retreat.

Other areas, she said, included identifying new revenue-generating opportunities, strengthening collaboration between KSIP and relevant stakeholders and attracting domestic and international investments.

She also charged the company to improve accountability, transparency and efficiency while establishing measurable performance targets.

Mukhtar said the success of the retreat should not be measured by the resolutions reached but by the extent to which such resolutions were translated into concrete action.

“The success of this retreat should not be measured by the resolutions reached alone, but by the extent to which those resolutions are translated into concrete actions and measurable improvements in the performance of KSIP,” she said.

She urged the management to review its previous performance and ensure that the proposed 2027 budget reflected achievable programmes and projects that would contribute to the financial sustainability of the organisation and the state.

The Permanent Secretary further called on participants to be objective, innovative and result-oriented in their deliberations.

She expressed confidence that effective leadership, prudent management and stronger collaboration with stakeholders would enable KSIP to contribute more significantly to the state’s economic development.

In his remarks, the Managing Director of KSIP, Alhaji Auwalu Mukhtar Bichi, said the company organised the annual retreat to review its operations and develop strategies for improved performance.

Bichi said the gathering was necessary to enable the company to remain effective in its operations and increase returns on investments to the state government.

He added that the retreat would also produce strategies aimed at improving efficiency and enhancing satisfaction among the company’s clients.

“We deemed it necessary to organise this type of gathering annually in order to remain afloat in our operations as well as add value in terms of investment returns to the Kano State Government,” Bichi said.

The Chairman of the Finance Committee of the Kano State House of Assembly, Hon. Ibrahim Muhammad, commended KSIP management for organising the retreat.

Muhammad said the initiative demonstrated the company’s preparedness to improve its performance and achieve greater efficiency.

Also, the member representing Doguwa and Deputy Chairman of the Public Accounts Committee, Hon. Salisu Ibrahim, backed the management’s strategy to reposition the company for improved performance.

He urged KSIP to remain focused on its mandate and pursue measures capable of strengthening its contribution to the state’s economy.
