The police have arraigned three men, Jonathan Odey, 24; Samson Samuel, 18, and Friday Nden, 18, in a Senior Magistrates’ court, Abuja, for allegedly stealing two Blackberry Q 10 phones.

The prosecutor, Cpl David Udeh, told the court that on February 22, at about 2 a.m., one Ezy Chibuzom of No 49, Arsenal Drive, Sun City, Abuja, lodged a report against the accused persons at the Wuse Zone 3 Police Station.

He said Chibuzom reported that on same day, at about 1:40 a.m., the accused persons attacked her at Krystal Lounge, Wuse 2, Abuja.

Udeh told the court that the accused persons stole Chibuzom’s Blackberry Q 10 and Nokia phones valued at N65,000.

He said that the accused persons were standing trial for joint act and theft, contrary to sections 79, and 287 of the Penal code, respectively.

The counsel to the accused, Azubike Moneke, however applied for their bail under section 36(5) of the 1999 Constitution which presumed an accused innocent until proven contrary.

He said they would not jeopardise police investigation and would not jump bail.

“I hereby grant the accused persons bail in the sum of N100,000 with two reliable sureties in like sum who must reside within the jurisdiction of the court.’’

Eri adjourned the matter to April 2 for continuation of hearing. (NAN)
