FG to achieve 95% digital literacy by 2030 – Dr. Pantami

The Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Dr. Isa Ibrahim Pantami has disclosed the plans of the Federal Government to ensure that 95% of Nigerians are digital literate between year 2020 and 2030.
Dr. Pantami made the disclosure in Abuja at a Media Parley organised by the Ministry for the National Information Technology Reporters Association of Nigeria (NITRA).
The Minister said, for the country to fully achieve diversification of its economy, there was need to focus on the non-oil sector, which he believed would be better driven by the communications sector.
“2020 we want to embark on massive training of Nigerians on digital skills. ICT is the most prominent sector that we need to diversify the economy.
“Our target is that between 2020 to 2025, 95% of Nigerians are digital literate. We will work together to ensure that literacy level is achieved by the day.
“We want to focus on digital innovation and digital entrepreneurship because it is key to digital economy, “ he said.
Pantami said, the final copy of the digital economy policy would soon be out on the website, disclosing that implementation has begun in some parts of the policy.
He said, the federal government was working on cyber security by creating the needed awareness and collaborating with relevant agencies to work against cyber crime.
