FUDMA Organises International Conference on Alan Waka’s Literary Works

The University Management has approved the hosting of an international conference on the literary works of renowned Hausa poet, author and musician, Aminu Ladan Abubakar Alan Waka.

The conference will focus on the theme: “The Poetics of Aminu Ladan Abubakar’s Literary Works: A Study of Theory and Principles of Literary Composition.”

The approval was announced during a courtesy visit on FUDMA’s Vice Chancellor by Alan Waka and members of the conference Local Organising Committee (LOC).

The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Mohammed Khalid Othman, described the conference as a unique academic platform that would deepen research in Hausa literature, poetry and creative writing while showcasing the richness of the language and the scholarly contributions of the Hausa department of the university.

Prof. Othman reaffirmed the university’s readiness to host the international conference and pledged full support to ensure its success.

He expressed confidence that the conference will attract academics, researchers, literary scholars and cultural enthusiasts from within Nigeria and beyond.

In his remarks, the Dean, Faculty of Arts, Professor Bashir Aliyu Sallau, said the event will be “a historic international gathering” and commended the Vice-Chancellor and the Management for their continuous support towards the advancement of academic programmes and cultural scholarship.

Prof. Sallau assured that the organising committee would work tirelessly to ensure the successful hosting of the conference.

Also speaking, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Academics, Prof. Abubakar Sadiq Suleiman, urged members of the LOC to work in harmony and share responsibilities effectively throughout the planning process.

The University Registrar, Dr. Musa Ajiya, advised against “unnecessary mixing of English and Hausa languages while making formal presentations and delivering speeches”, during the conference.

The Chairman of the LOC, Professor Ibrahim Garba Satatinu, expressed appreciation to the Vice-Chancellor for his understanding, support and unwavering commitment to the successful hosting of the conference and assured that they ensure diligent planning and effective coordination.

In his remarks, Alan Waka appreciated the university for the honour done to him and its commitment to promoting indigenous languages, literature and cultural heritage.

He said the conference will inspire younger generations of writers, poets and researchers to preserve and promote the rich literary traditions of the Hausa people.

Alan Waka pledged to mobilise and invite prominent dignitaries, renowned scholars, literary icons, traditional rulers, government officials and cultural enthusiasts from within and outside Nigeria to participate in the conference.

He said,  “The participation of distinguished personalities from different parts of the world will enrich the quality of discussions, enhance the international outlook of the conference and make the event more colourful, impactful and widely recognised as a landmark gathering in the promotion of Hausa language, literature and culture.”
