FUDMA Establishes Centre for Hausa Language, History, Monuments and Digital Documentation

The Management of the Federal University Dutsin-Ma (FUDMA) has approved the establishment of the Centre for Hausa Language, History, Monuments and Digital Documentation, a landmark initiative aimed at the promotion, preservation, documentation and advancement of Hausa language, culture and history through research and digital innovation.
The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Mohammed Khalid Othman, who made the announcement when the renowned Hausa musician, Aminu Ladan Abubakar, popularly known as Alan Waka, paid him a courtesy visit in his office.
He said “the establishment of the Centre is a significant milestone in the University’s commitment to preserving Nigeria’s rich Hausa cultural heritage and promotion of academic excellence”.
According to Prof. Othman, FUDMA under his administration “will continue to support the newly created Centre to ensure that it grows and develops into a leading institution for Hausa studies, cultural preservation and digital documentation”.
He said the Centre is expected to serve as a hub for research, innovation and cultural exchange, while contributing to the preservation of valuable historical materials for future generations.
Earlier, the Dean, Faculty of Arts, Professor Bashir Aliyu Sallau, expressed appreciation to the University management for approving the establishment of the Centre.
He described the Vice-Chancellor as “a visionary and supportive leader” whose commitment to academic development has continued to open new opportunities for scholarship and cultural preservation.
Professor Sallau said the Centre will not only strengthen teaching and research in Hausa studies, but also position the University as a national and international reference point for the preservation of indigenous languages, historical monuments and cultural heritage through modern digital technologies.
The centre is also expected to digitise Ajami and other historical manuscripts, run Certificate and Diploma programmes in relevant fields; engage in the documentation and preservation of historical monuments for educational, historical and tourism purposes; and organise and manage a Cultural Centre and the University’s Cultural Troupe.
Other objectives include the establishment and maintenance of a Hausa Gallery; translation and publication of important works relating to Hausa language, literature, arts, culture and history; development of digital archives and repositories for Hausa heritage resources; and the promotion of multidisciplinary research and collaboration in Hausa studies.
The establishment of the Centre is expected to attract researchers, scholars, students and cultural enthusiasts from within and outside Nigeria, thereby enhancing the University’s academic reputation and contribution to national development
