Traders in Abavo Market have been captured like their counterparts in other informal groups already enjoying free health care services in the state in line with the Okowa administration’s policy for improved and sustained health for all Deltans.
The Head of the Informal Sector Taxes and representative of the Board of Internal Revenue under the Identifiable Group Taxation (IGT) project, Mrs. Edna Okoh, gave the hint during the activation and capturing of traders in the market into the State Contributory Health Scheme in Ika South Local Government Area.
According to her, the exercise was geared towards maintaining a vibrant state and re-enforcing the crucial role health plays in the drive towards a stable economy.
She reiterated the deep passion of Governor Okowa at achieving a healthy Delta, being a medical doctor, recalling it was among reasons the governor held a meeting with stakeholders of informal sector groups in 2016.
The informal sector taxes head while acknowledging with satisfaction the huge turn-out of traders and their willingness to embrace the scheme, explained that they would be expected to contribute the sum of N50 (fifty naira) daily and one thousand (N1,000) naira monthly towards inclusion in the scheme.
The President General of Abavo Kingdom, Mr. Agbejiagwe Jonathan, who spoke on behalf of the traders, described the exercise as a clear attestation to the fact that the State Government meant well for its citizens, stating that the move would make accessing health care services less burdensome.
He therefore appealed to persons in charge of implementation to do right by the people to encourage a greater turn out as the exercise progresses.
The exercise climaxed with a question and answer session, registration and capturing of Abavo market traders.
