Fire Service graduates 2,200 cadets

The Federal Fire Service (FFS) yesterday graduated 2,200 cadets at its academy in Sheda, Abuja.
The service also launched six new fire trucks and deployed 96 to high risk areas.
Speaking at the event, Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola, said that the new fire fighting trucks could help the officers combat fire related disaster across the country.
He said there was an urgent need to encourage staff and empower them with modern technology to enable them up their game in fighting fire in the country.
“We need to ensure discipline and encourage our fire fighters to help in safeguarding lives and property.”
He urged the new cadets to champion the fight and contribute their quota in fighting disaster in the country.
Also speaking, the Controller General of the service, Liman Ibrahim, said President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration has brought the service back to life.
“His transformation agenda recognized the need to reposition fire service in Nigeria and approved the recruitment of these cadets we are graduating.
“As we reap the rewards of a purposeful leadership engendered by the present administration, I commend all those who worked tirelessly to ensure this success”.
He added that “the FFS will in no distant time organize a retreat to fashion out strategies to address challenges arising from ambiguities and gaps in the service status, National safety code etc”
