Prices of foodstuffs and other items soared high yesterday in Kaduna because of coronavirus pandemic.
Investigation by our reporter revealed that customers stormed various market outlets in what is described as ‘ panic purchase ‘.
A 120ml of hand sanitizer that usually go for N150 – N200 was sold for N400 and later on N700, while the big bottle which usually goes for N600 now cost N2,500.
Spaghetti that sells for N1,250 now sells for N3,000. At a supermarket opposite Ten Storey building, a measure of powdered milk previously sold for N1000 now cost N1,500.
At the Sheihk Abubakar Gumi’s market, a measure of locally made rice which hitherto sold for N400 now sells for N700, while red beans sold for N250 now cost N450.
A bag of sachet water former which formally sells at N80 – N100 now cost N150.
However, major streets in the Kaduna metropolis was a shadow of itself as very view commuters were noticed on the street.
Some attributed this to the closure of schools and the strict instructions for students to remain at home.
Even though Kaduna State has not officially recorded any case of coronavirus, the ghost is already hunting residents and people are now getting closer to their maker for solution.
