Police authorities in Nasarawa state said it has smashed a three-man armed robbery gang operating in Obi local government area of the state, with mobile phones, cash and other valuables recovered from the suspects.
Nasrawa state Police command spokesman, ASP Umar Isma’ila told newsmen in Lafia yesterday that the gang before their arrest, robbed a bus at about 1 a.m. on Obi-Agwatashi road while also raping three female passengers.
He explained that, acting on tip-off, the police patrol in the area were able to engage the robbers in a gun battle, leading to the arrest of one of the suspects, who police said has sustained bullet wound on the leg.
Isma’ila further disclosed that the suspect, who is currently in custody, had made useful statements that would help the police to arrest the two other suspects, who escaped, adding that investigation was still on to ascertain if the robbers had other collaborators.
The PPRO urged the public to be vigilant and avail the police with useful information that would help in the fight against crime and criminality in the state.
