Former Man United defender Blind collapses on pitch

Date:

Former Manchester United defender Daley Blind suffered another heart scare as the Ajax defender collapsed during a friendly match against Hertha Berlin on Tuesday.
Blind had to be attended by medics during Ajax’s friendly encounter with Berlin, after he went down in the penalty box and appeared to be in pain, even pointing to his chest momentarily. His teammates immediately signaled to the bench for assistance.
Earlier this year, the Dutch international was diagnosed with a heart condition and fitted with a subcutaneous implantable cardioverter-defibrillator (S-ICD system) to combat his health issues and was cleared to return to training and playing football.
The 30-year-old was speaking to his teammates the entire time and was able to walk off the pitch without help when he was subbed off.
“Daley Blind’s ICD went off. He got subbed off straight away and he is feeling okay now, he is feeling fine. We will do research about this now,” said the Ajax coach Erik ten Haag after the match.
