Covid – 19: FCDO trains Jigawa women development officers

The Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office of the United Kingdom (FCDO) through one of its programme Lafiya programme has trained women development officers across 27 local government on prevention measures against the spread of corona virus diseases in Jigawa state.
The two day training that held at Manpower Development Institutes is aimed at reducing the spread of newly corona virus diseases in the state.
While speaking on the objectives of the training, the state team leader of Lafiya pro‎gramme Dr Abdullahi Maiwada said women as mothers have a vital role to play in reducing the spread of any diseases in the community.
He explained that, as part of lafiya programme’ commitments to improve health sectors in Jigawa, about sixty women are selected and trained on prevention measures across 27 local governments in the state.
“The training of women development officers would give them light on how to contribute their quota toward social mobilisation as well as to mitigate and control the spread of Covid-19 in their communities” he said.
While making her remarks shortly after declaring the training open, the state commissioner for women affairs and social development Hajiya Yalwa Da’u Tijjani who was represented by her permanent secretary urged the participants to concentrate and extend the skills to other women at down levels.
She then commended FCDO for introducing lafiya programme and assured more support from state government for the success of the programme.He explained that, as part of lafiya programme’ commitments to improve health sectors in Jigawa, about sixty women are selected and trained on prevention measures across 27 local governments in the state.
