Good governance: AMAC Chairman scored high, tasked on sustainability plan for projects

The Chairman of Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), Abdullahi Adamu Candido has been charged to place all people-oriented projects and policies on a sustainabililty plan, in order to ensure continuity in growth and development of the Council.

In particular, Candido, who is rated  highly for engineering rapid and inclusive development of the Council, was however challenged to ensure all  administrative and economic structures created under his watch outlive his administration for continuity by successive AMAC administrations.

This charge, was given by participants at the second edition of AMAC Media Retreat, organised for journalists and public relations managers of the Council, at the weekend.

In a communique issued at the end of the two-Day retreat themed: “Appraisal Of AMAC Governance: Focus On Candido’s Administration”, held at Sawalino Hotel And Suite, Keffi, Nasarawa State, the participants observed that AMAC within the five years of Candido’s reign has recorded giant strides in conception and implementation of policies and projects tailored to improve wellbeing of the people and the Council as a third tier of Government.

The Communique read: “We the participants at the 2nd AMAC media Retreat, resolved and passed the following communique: that the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) under the leadership of Hon. Abdullahi Adamu Candido, has so far, performed creditably well in education, rural electrification primary healthcare services and potable water supply.

“Other areas include: road construction and rehabilitation, provision and maintenance of Cemeteries, public convenience and sanitation, construction and management of Markets, agricultural development, security and Chieftaincy affairs, as well as empowerment and participatory governance.”

It adds: “That it was discovered that if AMAC was allowed unencumbered, to carry out its constitutionally assigned roles, the giant strides so far achieved  would have surpassed what the present Administration has recorded.

“That the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) should allow the Area Councils in the FCT to operate and function in line with the Nigerian Constitutional confines.”

Furthermore, the participants stressed the need for the Council to liase with embassies within AMAC for educational development especially scholarship sponsorship for less privileged students to further their studies locally and internationally.

They also urged the Council to consolidate more efforts on education, job creation, security architecture, funding of modernise and mechanised agriculture as well as rain and retrain revenue staff for improved Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) and service provision.
