The Ogun state government has promised victims of Sunday’s rainstorm in Idogo and Ipake communities in Yewa-South local government area of the state with provision of relief materials to reduce their plight.

The rainstorm damaged about 100 houses in the two communities, including a public primary school in Idogo.

Secretary to the State Government, Barr. Taiwo Adeoluwa, who made government decision known yesterday, when he led the state government’s delegation on an on-the-spot assessment tour of the affected communities.

Adeoluwa, who was accompanied by the Commissioner for Environment, Engr. Ayo Olubori, his counterpart in the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Chief Muyiwa Oladipo and and others, described the incident as a great loss, not only to the affected communities, but to the state as a whole.

While thanking God that no life was lost to the disaster, the SSG noted that the state governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun was deeply touched by the incident, which necessitated the inspections to ascertain the level of the damage.

While assuring the villagers that the relief materials would be brought to them soonest, Adeoluwa revealed that the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) was already on ground for proper house to house enumeration and assessment to determine needs of victims.

Speaking on behalf of their communities, the Onidogo of Idogo, Oba Saheed Olubiyi and the Baale of Ipake, Chief Dauda Fadairo thanked the State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun for his timely response and pledged their continued support for the programmes and policies of his administration which they noted had impacted positively in their lives.

Narrating his ordeal, one of the victims, the Basorun of Idogo, Chief Gbadamosi Amusa explained that he and his household escaped death by the whiskers, as they were almost trapped by the debris of his collapsed building while they were asleep.

“Only God can explain how we narrowly escaped, because this is where I and my wife were sleeping before the roof suddenly came down. We thank God for protecting us all he said.
