Work on Lokoja-Shintaku bridge to commence in October

Construction work on the proposed Confluence Bridge across River Niger and Benue, in Kogi state, for easy accessibility between the north and south divide of the country is to commence in October this year.

The project, which is expected to gulp N49 billion naira when completed, will be ready for public use upon completion, after 36 months of gestation.

The bridge is expected to link Ganaja, in Ajaokuta local government council to Shintaku in Bassa local government council of the state.

The project which is under Public Private Partnership (PPP) is expected to be supported by the Kogi state government as the company handling the project, WALCOTT Nigeria Limited, in conjunction with some financial institutions, is expected to improve the socio-economic activities of the state.

The Managing Director of the company, Mr. Christopher Ezea, who led the delegation on a visit to Kogi state Governor, Captain Idris Wada yesterday, expressed their pride in partnering with Wada’s administration to bring the much-agitated-for bridge to a reality.

Responding, the Kogi state governor, Captain Idris Wada said the bridge will open up the socio-economic potentials lying untapped in the vast area for development of the state.

Captain Wada noted that it will serve as huge beacon of advantage, to develop Lokoja as a modern state, pointing out that it will also boost socio-economic activities of the state capital.

The governor stressed that government will support the project with unwavering political will, saying that as a government, they believe in the project and promised ‘’we will leave no stone unturned to ensure that the project is completed in 36 months projection by the company”.

Captain Wada added that when completed, it will enable the state to become an industrial giant of the north-central zone of the country as it will attract more investors to the state.

The team, led by the governor, later visited the site of the project.
