Tevez may miss Eagles clash at World Cup

Date:

The Argentine striker, Carlos Tevez might not wear the Albiceleste shirt at the 2014 Fifa World Cup in Brazil.

Reports from Argentina have suggested the Juventus striker will be overlooked for the Argentine selection and probably won’t face the Super Eagles in Brazil.

Tevez, popularly called ‘Apache’ in Argentina, has not played for the national side since the 2011 Copa America and looks likely to miss out on another major international tournament yet again.

The 30-year-old former Manchester City striker has been in fine form for Serie A leaders Juventus, notching up 17 league goals, but coach Alejandro Sabella doesn’t seem impressed.

Tevez, who has played 64 times for Argentina looks to have accepted his fate as he told Sky Sports Italia that he has already booked his holidays.

Argentina coach Sabella has not called up Carlos Tevez since he took over from Sergio Batista and he might still look to stick with the likes of Lionel Messi, Gonzalo Higuain, Sergio Aguero and Angel Di Maria for the tournament.

Argentina is in Group F of the 2014 Fifa World Cup to be held in Brazil alongside the Super Eagles of Nigeria, Iran and Bosnia-Herzegovina.

The Albiceleste will kick off their World Cup campaign on 15 June in Rio de Janeiro against Bosnia-Herzegovina who is making their debut at the tournament.
