The Anambra State government has advised both the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to put their houses in order, describing their recent primaries as “anything but transparent and lacking in credibility”.
Commenting on the recent primaries of both parties to elect their flag bearers for the November Anambra governorship election, the State’s Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Mr. C. Don Adinuba said, “To ensure that the tremendous progress in the areas of peace, stability and development which the Anambra people have made in the last decade continue, the national leadership of both the APC and PDP should cancel the so-called congresses of June 26, 2021 and organize credible ones within the next few days. The congresses (primaries) are foreboding enough. No groups of persons in the state should be allowed to remind our people of the years of hooliganism, lawlessness and election rigging. Those years should not be brought back. Anambra people will not take kindly to any persons who dare to restore the culture of impunity.
Adinuba lamented the Inability of both the PDP and APC “to follow in the footsteps of APGA in organizing credible congresses” while noting that conduct of both parties’ primaries which according to him were marked by “confusion and chaos” have profound implications for democracy and progress in Anambra State in particular and Nigeria in general. “They have revealed that there are still actors in high places determined to perpetrate the culture of impunity which ia arguably is the greatest to our existence as a nation”, the Commissioner stressed
Recall that the PDP held parallel primaries with the Chris Uba faction electing Ugochukwu Uba as its governorship candidate while the Ndubuisi Nwobu faction which according to reports has been declared illegal by an Abuja federal court but which is backed by the PDP national body chose Valentine Ozigbo as its flagbearer for the forthcoming election.Senator Andy Uba was declared winner of the APC primary. His con-contestants and Labour Minister, Chris Ngige who is the party’s leader in Anambra state insisted that there was no credible election. They called for its cancellation and conduct of a fresh one.
