Surveyor Gen. urges surveyors to deepen practice technologically

Surveyor General of the federation, Surv. Taiwo Adeniran has urged professionals in the survey industry to take advantage of existing technology and innovations to deepen practice.
Surv. Adeniran made the disclosure at a seminar of association of private practicing surveyors of Nigeria (APPSN) organized by the FCT branch in Abuja recently.
He said, “The only thing that is permanent is change, and for any professional to keep on been relevant in the scheme of things and be afloat, it must be ready to change and adapt to the dynamics around.
“This very important particularly now with the blinding changing technology, which is rapidly affecting all sectors recently.”
According to him, the international federation of surveyors council recently at it’s meeting in Morocco approved a proposal for an update on vision or the definition of a “surveyor.”
He said that there is need for curriculum updates to our universities and polytechnics to take into account recent technologies and development within than field of Geomantics.
“There is need to expand the margin to strengthen the core surveying training, our education Institutions should increasingly focus on global market place rather than on national scene, so that practicing surveyors will be on the move,” he stated.
Similarly, the chairman of FCT APPSN chapter, Surv. Solomon Olukotun, said surveyors of 21st century, should not be limited or contented with cadastral practices alone.
He said “it is high time we look into other untapped surveying surveying jobs, like engineering surveying, hydrographic surveying, application of GIS in surveying related jobs”.
