No fewer than thirteen people were confirmed dead in another canoe mishap in Dabi village in Ringim Local Government Area of Jigawa state.
The incident was confirmed by the Ringim Local Government Chairman, Alhaji Shehu Sule Udi.
He explained that, the incident happened on Sunday evening with the thirteen passengers on their way to a condolence visit from Dabi to Siyango village.
Udi said the body of seven out of the thirteen victims were recovered while the remaining six are still missing.
Also, the police public relations officer Jigawa state police command, DSP Lawan Shiisu Adam confirmed the incident.
He said the search and rescue mission was launched with the assistance of local divers and seven people were recovered while the remaining six are still missing.
“Two out of the seven recovered victims were confirmed dead by medical examination and the five are in critical condition and still receiving medical attention while the remaining six are still missing”.
He said, “preliminary investigation revealed that the canoe hit an object and broke down, as a result, all the occupants drowned in the water.”
Police spokesman said the effort to search for the remaining six corpses is on going.
Last week, Peoples Daily newspapers reported that, NSCDC and Police commands in Jigawa, confirmed the death of seven people in two different canoe mishap.
