A Senior Secondary School (SSS2) student , one Afeez Raimi aged 20 have been arrested and detained in police custody for allegedly having carnal knowledge of a two-year old girl (names withheld) in Ibadan.
The two-year old victim, whose parents were tenants in the suspect’s grand father in Dalemo Street of Bembo area, in Apata, was said to have wandered off from her parents rented apartment into Raimi’s room, where he perpetrated the act.
The student of African Church Grammar School in Apata during an interview, confessed to the crime attributing his act to “the work of the devil”, saying he did not know what prompted him to commit the crime.”I was returning from somewhere, when she followed me into my room. I was ironing and she was sleeping on the bed. So I dipped my finger into her”, he said.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, Mrs. Olabisi Clet-Ilobanafor, the police immediately swung into action, when the incident was reported, arrested the suspect and placed the girl on medical examination, which revealed that her private part was penetrated and that she was bleeding.
It was also learnt that the victim is now on intensive medical care due to the high temperature she now suffers since the incident.
The Police Spokesperson however, urged parents to take charge of their young children and not entrust them in care of anyone.
She also admonished them to beware of rapists on prowl, who may be suffering from various psychotic conditions as they have no respect for age barriers or body development.
While the suspect remains in police custody, the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further discreet investigation
