An angry mob in Kastina State have burned a man alive for allegedly being gay. The incident occurred recently but has been brought to light due to the state signing a controversial anti -gay bill into law.
Homosexuality is illegal under the Nigeria legal frame work with about 14years imprisonment. Under the sharia laws it is abominable and attracts death penalties. Sharia Law is upheld in several states across Nigeria.
This was disclosed in a statement signed by the Coalition of Good governance in Northern State, Jamiu Hassa and made available to journalists in Abuja on Tuesday.
The statement partly read,”One Ifeanyi Lucky has escaped death in Katsina State after he was caught making out with his boyfriend Uche Naka. Unfortunately, Uche Naka was unable to escape.
“He was immediately apprehended and burnt to death by youths in their community claiming jungle justice.
“Until now, Members of the community are yet in search of Mr. Ifeanyi Lucky as they say he must face same punishment as his friend. The incident happened few days ago at Maradi Road, Magama Jibia LGA, Katsina State.
“However, this has remained a reoccurring decimal, as people are now been killed or sentenced to death by stonning when caught in same-sex activities.
“Lucky and Uche Naka was caught on September 15th 2021 by his sister while making out with in their apartment in Katsina state. Disgusted at the scene, his Sister immediately called out to people within the community.
“Before the arrival of the aggrieved youths, Mr Lucky was able to escape through the window in the toilet, but his boyfriend, Uche Naka couldn’t. Members of the community arrived and then forced themselves into the apartment.
“Uche Naka was beaten and burnt to death and until now, the community is yet in search for Mr Lucky and the Sharia court has also passed a judgement that Lucky be stoned to death If apprehended in any state or community across Nigeria.
“In Nigeria same-sex sexuality has remained illegal, punishable, unacceptable and abominable. Infact it attracts capital punishment. Many have been sentenced to death by stonning and others killed by community members without legal prosecution when caught in the alleged abominable act,” the statement read.
