Tinubu’s 2027 campaign kicks off in Kaduna October 24 — says Yari

Date:

The Director-General of the Tinubu Presidential Campaign Council, Senator Abdulaziz Yari, has announced that President Bola Tinubu’s 2027 re-election campaign will begin in Kaduna on October 24, following a meeting with the President at the State House, Abuja, on Friday.

Yari said the campaign team would hold its inaugural meeting at the State House Banquet Hall on October 14, ahead of the formal flag-off, as part of preparations to mobilise support for Tinubu’s second-term bid.

He disclosed the timetable after briefing Tinubu on the campaign arrangements, adding that the President had approved the proposed activities.

“The inaugural meeting is going to be done on the 14th of this month. That’s next Wednesday at the State House Banquet Hall, and by God’s grace, on the 24th of October, we’re going to do our flag-off campaign in Kaduna,” Yari said.

He said the campaign would subsequently move to other parts of the country, with Port Harcourt and Maiduguri among the next destinations.

“The next state is going to Port Harcourt. From there, we will be in Maiduguri. We have the timetable, and we’re going to make it available after the inauguration,” he added.

Yari expressed confidence in Tinubu’s chances of securing re-election, dismissing suggestions that opposition figures, including former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar and former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi, could defeat the President.

He argued that victory in a presidential election required a broad national support base, stressing that a candidate’s popularity in one region alone might not guarantee success.

Citing the political experience of former President Muhammadu Buhari, Yari said Buhari’s strong support in the North was insufficient to secure the presidency until he built wider political alliances.

“Look at Buhari of blessed memory. He had control of over 70 per cent at that time, over 11 states in the North, and had no control of one in the South. He couldn’t make it all the way,” he said.

Yari claimed that Tinubu had built support across the North and South since assuming office in May 2023, adding that the President’s performance would be central to the campaign.

Defending the administration’s record, he said Tinubu had taken steps to address the challenges inherited by his government and maintained that the economy was making progress.

“President Bola Tinubu, since the time he assumed office, has turned around the situation that he met on the ground. Still, the economy is moving,” Yari said.

He insisted that the campaign would focus on the administration’s record rather than rely solely on promises.

“We are not promising. We are doing it, and we are going to continue,” he added.
