Nigeria’s Super Falcons defeated Comoros 2-0 in the first leg of their second-round qualifying tie for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne, Ogun State, on Friday.
Goals from Michelle Alozie and Uchenna Kanu in the second half gave the nine-time African champions a two-goal advantage ahead of the return leg scheduled for Tuesday, October 13, at the same venue.
Alozie opened the scoring three minutes after the restart, finishing past Comoros goalkeeper Aicha Said in the 48th minute following a headed pass from Gift Monday.
The Super Falcons doubled their lead in the 60th minute when Kanu rose above the Comoros defence to head home a corner delivered by Jennifer Echegini.
Nigeria had dominated possession in the first half but struggled to convert their chances, with Said making important saves to keep the visitors in the game.
The Nigerian side, however, increased the pressure after the break and found the breakthrough through Alozie before Kanu extended the lead.
The victory gives the Falcons an advantage going into Tuesday’s return fixture, where they will seek to secure progress to the next stage of the Olympic qualifying campaign.
The Super Falcons are targeting a return to the Olympic Games as they pursue qualification for the 2028 edition in Los Angeles, United States.
