Gov Agbu relaxes 12 hours curfew in Taraba

Governor Agbu Kefas of Taraba State on Tuesday directed that 12 hours curfew imposed in Karim-lamido town and its environs be lifted with immediate effect.
This is contained in a statement signed by the Governor’s chief press secretary, Yusuf Sanda, when he received the report of the Peace and Reconciliation Committee on the Karimjo Wurkum crisis headed by Alhaji Inuwa Bakari.
According to a statement, “The Governor gave the directive on 8th August 2023 when he received the report of the Peace and Reconciliation Committee on the Karimjo Wurkum crisis headed by Alhaji Inuwa Bakari.
“The Governor had on the 7th of July 2023 relaxed the 24-hour curfew by 12 hours having reviewed the security situation with the stakeholders of the affected communities.
“While presenting the report, the Chairman assured the Governor that concerted peace-building efforts by the Committee have restored normalcy in the area, hence the need to lift the curfew.
“Dr. Agbu Kefas expressed satisfaction with the return of peace to the area and the readiness of people to now live in harmony with one another.
“The Governor also directed that the Peace Committee metamorphosed into a resettlement committee to oversee the distribution of relief materials to Internally Displaced Persons IDPs because of the conflict.
“It would be recalled that the State Governor, Dr. Agbu Kefas on the second of July 2023 imposed a 24-hour curfew in the area as a result communal feud between the Karimjo and Wurkum communities over chieftaincy matters.”
