Kaduna State Governor, Senator Uba Sani has said the increasing poverty level is a major source of worry for political leaders.
He stated this in a statement to mark the 63rd independence anniversary of Nigeria and made it available to the media.
Gov. Sani added that addressing the issue of poverty is critical to restoring the people’s faith in our democracy, saying at the international level, how can we reinvent our foreign policy to put Nigeria back on the global map?
He therefore called on Nigerian elites to work towards building consensus on where they want Nigeria to be in the scheme of world affairs.
According to him, it is only by building a united and peaceful country that they can reenergize the economy and develop sustainably.
Gov Sani opined that a strong economy will give the country the strategic muscle to negotiate its way to prominence in the global scene.
“We must also frontally address our challenges of insecurity. When we effectively address our internal security challenges, we can then resume peacekeeping and enforcement roles in West Africa and Africa.
“Let us therefore come together and support our security agencies in the fight against terrorism, banditry, kidnapping, armed robbery, and other forms of criminality.
“Here in Kaduna State, our administration is fully committed to securing the state and rebuilding trust in our communities by ensuring justice, equity, and fair play.”
