The Kwara state governor, Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed has said that Nigerians need to be more security conscious as part of strategies to avert security challenges.
Governor Ahmed gave the advice when the leadership of Ilorin Emirate Descendant Progressive Union (IEDPU) paid him a visit at the Government House, Ilorin to discuss strategies for averting the spread of security challenges to the State due to its strategic location between the Northern and Southern parts of the country.
Ahmed averred that no price was much to ensure adequate protection of lives and property as no developmental process would yield results in a state of anarchy, adding that all Nigerians, irrespective of their social, political and economic differences must work together to give peace a chance for Nigerians to live together as a people.
“At this period of security challenge that threatens our very foundation as a nation, we must all rise above political and regional divides to support the security agencies in their efforts to rescue the Chibok girls”.
The National President of IEDPU, Alhaji AbdulHameed Adi, in his remarks, said the need for improved security in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital and other parts of the State had become expedient in view of the upsurge in the population of the State due to influx of people from the Northern and Southern parts of the State.
Adi said that the IEDPU has been liaising with security chiefs, community and religious leaders on how to maintain peace in the State.
He suggested that government should explore the possibility of retrieving all illegally possessed arms and ammunitions and draft the people to farm centres for rehabilitation.
