Over N120 million worth of fake and unwholesome consumable products was destroyed by the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), yesterday.
The exercise which took place at the Bwari Area Council, of the Federal Capital Territory Abuja was one of its periodic activities aimed at getting rid of counterfeit and unwholesome regulated drugs in Nigeria.
The NAFDAC Director-General who was represented by Director Admin and Human Resource Management, NAFDAC, Mrs. Yetunde Mayowa Oni said the exercise was done to assure the public that that the fight against fake products is still on and that the Drug regulating body will not relent in its activities to curtail such products to the barest in the country.
According to Mrs. Oni, while some of the expired products were voluntarily submitted to NAFDAC, Its team had gone on a mop-up exercise at the open market, while adhering strictly to enforcement activities and surveillance systems.
She added that though the agency is faced with emerging and peculiar challenges of fishing out violators, it will tirelessly continue to live up to its mandate which is safeguarding the health of the nation by “ensuring that only safe, efficacious and wholesome regulated products are available to the populace.”
Mrs. Oni finally commended the various stakeholders and the Nigerian Security forces for contributing to the success of the exercise and also pleads their continuous support and collaboration in war against counterfeit and unwholesome regulated products.
