Acting General Manager Benue State owned transport outfit Benue Links Transport Company Ltd Mr. Alexander Fanafa has disclosed that he inherited over 261 million naira debt on assumption of duty.
Mr. Fanafa who made this disclosure on Tuesday when members of Benue State Correspondents’ Chapel visited him in his office in Makurdi, also, intimated that he took over cash hand over of just 10 million.
He said the huge indebtedness is not a hinderance to operation of the transport company, maintaining that the management is committed and determined to uplift the status of the company.
He pointed out the major challenge confronting the organization is that of inadequate vehicles, stating it was for this reason that the Governor Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia in his magnamity approved the purchase of 100 new vehicles for them
Hear him, ‘the company does not have enough vehicles so we depend on other vehicles liaised to us to manage. The Governor in his magnamity felt the need for us to have our actual core company vehicles that is why he opted to buy 100 vehicles for us.
“For now the process is on and almost completed but the vehicles have not been handed over to us. Only until then, we can be able to tell the good of Nigeria and Benue people how this palliative vehicles will operate and maximally benefit the people”.
In the area of security, the GM said they have resumed operation in States like Yobe, Maiduguri and Sokoto that were hitherto, security risk areas.
He further said that the company is not deterred by incidence of attacks on its vehicles by kidnappers, adding that it has not in anyway affected their patronage.
“It is not only Benue Links passengers that are facing kidnapping.This has not affected our passengers patronage. This incident is one out of 100 that happens on that Naka route. It is not peculiar to Benue Links”, he said.
