Political parties in Jigawa State signed a peace accord on Tuesday ahead of the Buji/Birnin Kudu Federal Constituency rerun election.
Two political parties, the Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP), and the All Progressive Congress, (APC), signed the peace accord organised by the Jigawa State Police Command.
The Independent National Electoral Commission, (INEC), has scheduled Saturday, February 3, 2024, for a rerun election of the Birnin Kudu-Buji federal constituency.
The election tribunal in Dutse, Jigawa State, had declared the February 25, 2023, election of Birnin Kudu/Buji federal constituency as inconclusive. The Court of Appeal also affirmed the judgement of the tribunal.
INEC had declared the candidate of PDP, Adamu Yakubu, as the winner of the election with 39,998 votes against the candidate of APC, Magaji Da’u, who scored 36,735 votes.
Jigawa State Commissioner of Police, A.T. Abdullahi, vowed to deal decisively with anyone trying to cause chaos before, during and after the election.
He also assured the parties that police operatives are neutral and non-partisan and will continue to create a level playing field for all during the elections
