To mark the 2024 World Day Against Trafficking in Persons, the Pioneer Director of the International Forum for Women in Energy, Oil, and Gas, Delta State Chapter, Okekpolo Ogochuku-FSM FJILC, has emphasized the crucial role of parental responsibility in preventing human trafficking.
Speaking in Warri on Tuesday, Ogochuku noted that economic hardship should not be used as an excuse for parents to neglect their responsibilities, leaving children vulnerable to human traffickers.
She warned that young girls are often targeted by traffickers who promise them jobs or opportunities abroad, but instead, they become victims of modern-day slavery.
Ogochuku urged parents to provide for their children’s needs and avoid placing undue expectations on them to support the family at a young age.
“By shouldering their responsibilities, parents can help prevent their children from becoming prey to human traffickers.
“Let us work together to protect our children and combat human trafficking”.
