Gov Isa Yuguda of Bauchi State has yet to declare his desire to contest the presidency or a senate seat, his spokesman, Malam Danlami Takko, says.

He told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Bauchi that it had become necessary to clear the air to prevent some people from using the people of the state to heat up the polity.

“What was happening was simply a clamour by many interest groups and political supporters urging the governor to contest the presidency or the senatorial seat, “Takko said.

`If he decides today to contest, either the senate or the presidency, the man, Malam Isa Yuguda, is fully qualified and there is no problem about that.

“He has a track record of good public service career; an excellent achiever. He has done very well in Bauchi State. He has left his indelible mark in the history of Bauchi state.

“But considering that the governor is holding a very high position, and a very sensitive one for that matter, I think a word of caution for his supporters is that they should be very careful not to give the impression that it is the governor himself that is asking them to do this. “

According to him, “the first thing to consider is whether the governor has formerly made it known to the world that he is going to contest any of the seats.

“As far as I am concerned and as far as I know, the governor has not come out publicly to say that I will go for the senate or I will go for the presidency.

“What you have been seeing or hearing is clamour by some people, supporters, associates and those who feel that the governor really deserves the two seats.

He said though Yuguda had the leadership qualities to contest for any of the posts he had never declared his intent to do so.

“Judging by his background, the governor is capable and eligible to contest for the presidency or the senatorial seat come 2015 if he so decides,” he said.

He, however, appealed to those calling on the governor to contest in the 2015 general election not to give the impression that they were being sponsored by the governor.

NAN reports that posters of Yuguda have flooded the state capital, fuelling speculations that the governor may join the race for the 2015 presidential election or the Senate.

A group, known as Concerned National Professionals, through its Chairman, Dr Mohammed Chindo, has claimed responsibility for the posters. (NAN)
