Abuja bomb blasts worry Keshi

Date:

The Head Coach of the Super Eagles, Stephen Keshi, has expressed sadness at the news of a bomb blast in Abuja that killed 22 people and leaving many injured on Wednesday.

The deadly explosion took place at a popular shopping mall in the Nigerian capital just before the Super Eagles faced their Argentinian counterparts in a Group F match at the Fifa World Cup in Brazil.

Keshi has now described the incident as “sad” at a time when the African champions should be jubilant in reaching the last 16 of the Mundial for the first time since 1998 despite losing 2-3 to Argentina.

“How much of a victory is football going to give for those lives? What are these guys doing? They did it in the first game, and they now did it again. This is sad,” said Keshi.

It is not the first time during this World Cup that a bomb would go off in the West African nation.

On June 17, about 14 people were reportedly killed in Tsamiya Lilo area in Damaturu, Yobe State while watching a World Cup match between Brazil and Mexico at a viewing centre.

Nigeria’s Super Eagles will go up against 1998 World Cup champions, France in the second round in Brasilia on Monday.
